Lattice energy is the amount of energy given out when gaseous ions of opposite charges are brought together from infinity into a solid lattice to from 1 gram mole of a compound. It is also called the crystal energy of the compound. The lattice energy depends upon (a) the sum of the coulomb attractions and repulsions between all ions in the lattice and (b) THE Born repulsion between ions in contact.
