Silicates defined as a salt in which the anion contains both silicon and oxygen, especially one of the anion SiO42−
ex:- zircon (ortho), Thortvetite (pyro), Enstatite (chain) , Beryl (cyclic), kaolin (Sheet)

Approximately 30% of all minerals are silicates and some geologists estimate that 90% of the Earth's crust is made up of silicates, SiO44- based material. Thus, oxygen and silicon are the two most abundant elements in the earth's crust.

A silicate is a compound containing an anionic silicon compound. The great majority of silicates are oxides, but hexafluorosilicate ([SiF6]2) and other anions are also included. "Orthosilicate" is the anion SiO44 or its compounds.

silicates are the derivatives aortho silisic acids
types of silicates are ortho silicates(zircon)
pyrop silicates( thortwite)
chain silicates (enstatite)
cyclo silicates (beryl)
sheet silicates(kaolin)
three dimensional silicate
