it is a cleavage type reactionl in which double bond is completly broken and the alkene molecule is broken into smaller group.it is carried out in two stages

(1)formation of ozonide(addition of ozone to double bond)
(2)hydrolysis of ozonide in presence of reducing agent to yield the cleavage product.
remember
(1)reduction with ag20,h202,peracids will give acid and ketone on breakage
(2)reduction with zn/acoh,me2s gives aldehyde and ketone.
(3)lialh4 or nabh4 will give alcohol
