what is ortho effect in aniline???? how can we decide basic strength..

Ortho effectis applicable to benzoic acids andanilines. It states thatorthosubstituted benzoic acids andanilinesare more acidic than benzoic acid andanilinerespectively.
Just because you have anorthosubstituent does not mean you will have anorthoeffect.

To have an ortho effecttwo conditions must be met

1) you need anorthosubstituent
2) and, importantly, it must be of sufficient steric bulk to disturb the adjacent substituent.
