Hello student,
A hydrideis theanionofhydrogen, H−, or, more commonly, it is acompoundin which one or more hydrogen centres havenucleophilic, reducing, or basic properties
These substances have been classified into three main types according to the nature of theirbonding:
Ionic hydrides, which have significantionic bondingcharacter.
Covalent hydrides, which include the hydrocarbons and many other compounds whichcovalently bondto hydrogen atoms.
Interstitial hydrides, which may be described as havingmetallic bonding.
