suppose namingC2H5NHCH3,(CH3)2NCH(CH3)C2H5
for 1 and second 2 compound the larger group are ethyl and butyl resp.now this will be the parent chain.on the other side N is attached to methyl.so this would be the prefix. so the name will be N-Methylethane and 2-(N,Ndimethyl)butane.
so overall with this example i want to say is first select the largest chain which will be the parent chain chain and other will be its prefix.
