The classical criteria for determining the purity of organic compounds are correct elemental compositions (Section 1-1A) and sharpness of melting point or constancy of boiling point. Important though these analytical and physical criteria are, they can be misleading or even useless.

Dear student 
The state of substance is determined by the attraction between its particles.. solid particles are bonded so thightely that when they are hammered ther dont deform in the case of metals.. liquid particles are less bonded in the comparision of solid and gases are much less bonded . liquides and gases both contain empty spaces between them so dissolution of a matter is much easier
