Trichloroacetaldehyde is more reactive towards nucleophilic addition reaction than acetaldehyde .Explain for 2marks .

CCl3 group is electron withdrawing group. This increases positive charge on the carbonyl carbon. Due to increased positive charge attack of nucleophile will be faster.

Chlorine being electron withdrawing in nature,
attract electrons  from Cl-C bond, in turn which makes the carbon atom more electron deficient  i.e. more +ve charge on carbon atom (bcz three chlorine atoms present in trichloroacetaldehyde) which is easily attacked by nucleophile .Hence trichloroacetaldehyde is more reactive than dichloroacetaldehyde which in turn more reactive than more chloroacetaldehyde .

Chlorine is electron withdrawing in nature, attract electrons from C-Cl bond, in turn which makes the C-atom more electron deficient. In case of acetaldehyde there is no electron withdrawing group. Hence trichloroacetaldrhyde is more reactive towards nucleophilic addition rxn than acetaldehyde.
