I ionic compound, the ions are attached to each other by strong electostatic bond between the +ve and -ve ions. They are arranged in a crysrtal lattice where lattice energy is very high. But in case of covalent bond, ions are not involved. Bond lenght is also largr as compared to ionic bonds. They are held by weak van der waals force. That is why thermal stability of ionic bond is more than covalent bond.
