For detection of sulphur and nitrogen we fuse them sodium to form sodium thiocynate which helps in their detection.If the reaction is carried in excess then we cannot detect them as they dissolve and become the same colour of the solvent.

N bromo succinide prefers 3 degree carbons for bromination so just add bromine at a 3 degree carbon.This on reaction with water will give OH at that position.
