Aryl halidesare relatively unreactivetoward nucleophilic substitution reactions. This lack of reactivityis due to several factors.
1.Steric hindrance caused by the benzene ring of thearyl halideprevents SN2reactions. 2.Phenyl cations are unstable, thus making SN1reactionsimpossible.
3. Partial double bond character.
