Sir pls explain the question to me and help me in the solution. In the reaction , Al +Fe3O4 – Al2O4+Fe, the number of electrons transferred from the reductant to oxidant is- A-8 electrons. B-4electrons C-24electrons. D-18electrons Does it mean transfer of electrons from al to fe3o4? Pls explain it to me. Thanks Jai

A-8 electrons.     B-4electrons
C-24electrons.     D-18electrons
Does it mean transfer of electrons from al to fe3o4? Pls explain it to me.

I think the answer is 8 electrons.
                      2Al + Fe3O4---------> Al2O4 + 3Fe
ox.state:            0   +8/3                +4           0
1 Al should lose 4 e- to gain a oxidation state of +4 hence 2Al should lose 8 e- & Al is reductant. the oxidant Fe should gain 8e- to change its oxidatin number to 0. so the 8 electrons lost by Aluminium will be gained by Fe hence the number of electrons transferred is 8. Its transfer of electrons from Al to Fe+8/3. U just concentrate on the atoms which gets oxidised or reduced. thank you
