If the arrow points in a counterclockwise direction ( left  when leaving the 12 o' clock position), the configuration at stereocenter is considered  S  ("Sinister" → Latin= "left").  If, however, the arrow points clockwise,( Right  when leaving the 12 o' clock position) then the stereocenter is labeled  R  ("Rectus" → Latin= "right"). The  or  is then added as a prefix, in parenthesis, to the name of the enantiomer of interest.

there can be two cases here:
  1. ​when the least priority group is on the horizontal line and we move from 1st  priority to 2nd. clockwise is S and anticlockwise is R
  2. when the least priority is at vertical line then moving from 1st priority to 2nd cloclwise is R and anticlockwise is S
