C6H5CH2-L (where L is any leaving group) shows SN2 with strong nucleophile and SN1 with weak nucleophile......Since NaOH is a strong nucleophile so here C6H5CH2Br with NaOH follows SN2 mechanism and forms product C6H5CH2OH... further saytzeff rule is used in case of elimination reactions
