Question 13: Place the isomeric compounds ethylenediamine(A), n-butylamine (B) and diethylamine(C) in order of decreasing boiling points and give an explanation.

Solution: B > C > A

shouldnt it be a>b>c

answer giver:Boiling points of amines depends upon their degree of association and degree of association is further depend upon the extent of H - Bonding. Since 1 Degree amine has to 2 degree amine has 1 and 3 degree amine has no hydrogen atom linked to nitrogen atom. Hence 1 Degree amine has highest boiling point. Hence answer should be B > C >A

but doesnt ethylenediamine have 2 NH2 s? hence wont it have greater H bonding?

As the no. of carbon atom in a compound increases the boiling point also increasesAs in you can see that n butyl amine has 4 carbon diethyl amine has also 4 carbon but due to branching it`s boiling point less than n butyl amine but still higher than ethylene diamine
