When HBr breaks into H+ and Br- then the H+ attacks OH group in the compound and Oxygen gets protonated and obtain +ve charge which is very unstable. If you check options (b) , (c) and (d) there is CH3 in all of them and we know that CH3 is an electron donating group, so the + ve charge on Oxygen get reduced and is stabilised. Thus, HBr reacts slowly with all the compound with CH3 group. Therefore answer is (a) as it doesn`t have any CH3 group.
