dry Ag2O yields ethers, also following SN2 mechanism. Hence option 1 is corect

Respected expert Mr. Arun, please explain the mechanism or please expain why only diethyl ether is formed and not any other ether. If its a point to remember than please state this in your answer.

Alkyl halides after treatment with Ag2O give it is and not compulsory will give only ethyl Ether. Mechanism you can take to alkyl halides and Ag2O is taken along with them then 2 mole of Ag salt is removed and both the alkyl halides are joined by O that is Ether bond and Ether will be formed. For example you can take 2ch3cl +Ag2O is equal to CH3OCH3 dimethyl Ether not diethyl Ether it`s not compulsory that every reaction with Ag2O will give only diethyl Ether it will depend on the reactants.
