Dear Student,
Wurtz reaction doesn’t result in the alkanes having odd number of carbons because
alkanes which are produced in the reaction have a double number of carbon atoms to the alkyl halides taken. And if two dissimilar alkyl halides are taken as the reactants, then a mixture of alkanes is obtained as the product.
Answer to second question is ethane.
