Please tell me if C-I bond undergoes homolytic cleavage or heterolytic cleavage ..... I am confused because both have similar electronegativity but alkenes are formed by alkyl iodide very fastly... Please explain......

Cleavage of the haloalkane bond is always Heterolytic.

The reason is the electronegativity difference between Carbon and Halogens.
