i does not have any idea about first one but , i can explain u second one
chemical formula of lactic acid is C2H4OHCOOH. It has a hydroxyl group adjacent to the carboxyl group
so acetaldehyde when reacted with HCN in basic medium cyanohydrin is formed and on hydrolysis lactic acid is formed
