phenol also known as carbolic acid.It is a white crystalline solide.The structural formula of phenol is C6H5OH. This formula is used to represent the six atoms of carbon, the six atoms of hydrogen, and the single atom of oxygen that is found in the organic compound called phenol. Phenol is most often used to create items like plastics but can also be found in many types of drugs including aspirin. Phenol is used in some medications that are analgesics or numbing agents and can be found in many sore throat sprays.
