Because it is one of the measure to judge the stability of any compiunds.
Resonance posses aromaticity that leads only if there is present (4n + 2) pi electrons in the molecule and if 4n it attains the anti aromaticity hence unstable.
Resonance is chosen as less the resonance energy more would be the stability.
