 it is a phenomenon to all liquids. We observe it in our daily life .I will explian it: insects walk on water ,due to surface tension. In burette we notice that the level of water tends to low. Because the water in the walls r like to bend down .So it forms a locus. This is also a reason for surface tension. Better if you search for it to get more information.Gud luck

surface tension is the elastic tendency of a fluid surface which makes it acquire the least surface area possible.surface tension allows insects (e.g. water striders), usually denser than water, to float and stride on a water surface.
