Yeah it is called umbrella inversion and it occurs in almost all nitrogen compounds with lone pair either in weak or strong form but it can be stopped by introducing bulky groups and ring structures like pyridine doesnt show this type of behaviour

Yes a similar phenomenon does occur for other compounds too. Pyramidal inversion is known as nitrogen fixation when compounds of nitrogen are involved. However, in compounds containing carbanions, phospines, it does exhibit this effect. For eg: Coniine, Pyrrolidine.
