When phenol is treated first with conc.H2SO4 to form ortho para substituted disulphuric acid which on further treating with conc. HNO3 it forms picric acid (2 4 6- trinitrophenol) For the preparation of o-nitrophenol phenol is first treated with NaNO3 and then adding conc. HNO3 to it which form o-nitrophenol
