its an SN2 reaction where ammonia or its derivatives reacts with one degree alkyl halide and gives corresponding amine.

The reactions of secondary alkyl halides are more difficult to predict! Secondary alkyl halides undergo SN1, SN2, E1 and E2. Strong nucleophiles that are weak bases will promote the SN2 reaction.
