As the benzylic cation is more stabilised by RESONANCE as compared to primary cation(C2) the carbocation stability would be responsible for the product selection.So consider the carbocation stability
We should remember that radical or cation or anion which is allylic or benzylic are more stable than the aliphatic carbovcation/carbanions/radicals.
