In the formation of BeCl2 why doesnt Be donate electron as it is electropostive it should donate it to chlorine and form an ionic bond with it like MgCl2 as they are in the same group .

In the formation of BeCl2 why doesnt Be donate electron as it is electropostive it should donate it to chlorine and form an ionic bond with it like MgCl2 as they are in the same group .

How can Be donate an electron?
It has already electron dificient with bearing +2 charge.
However it shares two electrons from the donor atom or gain electron from it to form he bond.
