Possibility of Silicon-Based Life Grows. Science fiction has long imagined alien worlds inhabited by silicon-based life, such as the rock-eating Horta from the original Star Trek series. ... Life on Earth is based on carbon, likely because each carbon atom can form bonds with up to four other atoms simultaneously.

Dear student
Sudden replacing carbon atoms with silicon atoms in any carbon-based life would kill it. Many molecules containing carbon would probably no longer be stable in their surroundings. Consider glucose, proteins, and fatty acids. Probably all the C=C double bonds (eg in unsaturated fatty acids) would disintegrate.
