i have a question
  1. how will we convert acetic acid into propanoic acid?

reduce acitic acid in presence of lithium aluminium hydrate it give ethanoic acid furthur react with pcl5 it give ethalechloride then react with kCN give ethylcynide furthur hydrolysis to give proponic acid

Its to simple! When acetic acid (CH3COOH) react with Grignard reagent the no.of carbon increases from two to three and with three carbons it is called as propanoic acid (CH3-CH2-COOH).Always remembered that Grignard reagent increases the no.of carbon atoms.
