let me to explain what is d pi – p pie bond ,
when a atom is bonded with anathor atom , and if 1 atom have vacant orbital and anathor have a lone pair of electron . , then in that case , the electron pair is donated to this vacant orbital .
so, it depend upon both in which orbital its donated and from where its donated .
i am taking the example of PO ^4-
here , phosphate ion bonding is due to p-pie – d pie . the vacant 3d orbital of P overlaps with the filled 2p orbital of O ,
hope it clears
