In general, "organic" compounds are those compounds which contain several carbons and hydrogens, carbon-carbon or carbon-hydrogen bonds. methane (CH4), carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), etc.
But exceptions include carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), carbonate ions (CO3), diamond, graphite.
