Hi,

Levorotatory and dextrorotatory compound are those optically active compound which has the capability to rotate the plane polarised light (PPL).
To be optically active, the prerequisite is the presence of chiral carbon. Those compound which can rotate the PPL to clock wise (prefix “+”, right) the compound is dextrorotatory while the compound which can rotate PPL to left or anti clockwise, then the compound is said to be Levorotatory.
