Take small amount of the substance,add 2-3 drops each of alcohol chloroform and 2ml of NaOH OR KOH solution.Shake and heat gently.A highly bad smelling odour is developed due to the formation of carbylamine.
C6H5NH2 + CHCl3 + 3KOH --------------> C6H5NC +3KCl + 3H2O
