– I, making carbocation more electron-deficient. Thus electron withdrawing group destabilises carbocation.

In the given attachment, option (2) is correct.
In (1), phenyl group stabilises carbocation through +M effect i.e. by delocalising its lone pair.
But in (2), electron donating group OCH3 is in addition at para position which also applies +M effect by delocalising its lone pair thus stability of carbocation increases.
In (3), OCH3 group is at meta position where only I effect works. Here OCH3 group applies – I effect.
In (4), NO2 group is electron withdrawing group which applies – M effect.
