MO theory has only one disadvantage that this is applicable for only 20 electrons or less, if the number of electrons exceed that 20 than we cannot use MO theory, then we use LIGAND FIELD THEORY (LFT)

So, to determine that if their are unpaired electrons in KO2, you should draw its lewis dot structure and then find whether there are unpaired electron or not.
Now if you draw the lewis dot structure then and assign formal charges to the different combining elements then you will find that K has +1 charge, i.e. K+
That means that KO2 have unpaired electrons

Thanks
Hope It Helps
