There is not much difference between position isomerism and metamerism.Actually It`s like this "metamerism is a special case of positional isomerism". When a compound has a functional group as a part of its chain then we call positional isomerism as metamerism to specify that the functional group is a part of the chain. Ex:- C4H10O . Here 1-hydroxy-butane and 2-hydroxy-butane are position isomers while methyl propyl ether and diethyl ether are metamors.
