Describe two methods in which the pentane can be prepared.

The easiest and cheapest way to get pentane is to distil it out of the light hydrocarbons that come out of the ground with oil. A huge mixture of hydrocarbons come out of the ground where they have been built up under heat and pressure on trees & shrubs (and a few dinosaurs) for many millions of years. Boil a pot of them and run the vapor up through a tall fractionation tower as vapor to separate by increasing boiling point. “Fractional distillation”. The small molecules come off first: Methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane. What does that mean?
