REACTION WITH BASE ------formic account reacts with any base for example NAOH whereas Benzaldehyde does not...........REACTION WITH NAHCO3------formic acid gives brisk effervescence on reaction with NAHCO3 whereas Benzaldehyde does not react at all...These are some simple chemical reaction to differentiate between formic acid and Benzaldehyde.....

There are lots of difference between benzaldehyde and formic acid. Benzaldehyde contains aldehyde group and formic acid contains carboxylic acid functional group. Reaction with NaHCO3, formic acid gives brush effervescence while benzaldehyde won`t give this test. Further they can be distinguished by Fehling test. Benzaldehyde (aromatic aldehyde) do not give red ppt with Fehling solution but formic acid give positive test.
