This is a basic reaction
Hydrogen acts as a reducing agent in presence of a metal catalyst and hence when acted on aldehydes it turns it into alcohols
=> eathanal (acetaldehyde) turns into ethanol as

CH_3CHO + 2[H] \rightarrow CH_3CH_2OH
