Law of reciprocal proportions :-
"If two different elements combine separately with the same weight of a third element, the ratio of the masses in which they do so are either the same or a simple multiple of the mass ratio in which they combine."
We know thatoxygen and sulphur react with copper to give copper oxide and copper sulphide respectively. Suphur and oxygen also react with each other to give SO2
Then,
mass ratio of Cu : S = 63.5 : 32
mass ratio of Cu : O = 63.5 : 16
mass ratio of S : O = 32 : 16 = 2 : 1
and in SO2
mass ratio of O : S = 32 : 32 = 1 : 1
