An organic compound A after reacting with (C5H120)Na yields H2. Compound A by oxidation produces B(C5H120) which yields yellow precipitate after reacting with I2/KOH. A after oxidation by conc. H2SO4 at 170°c yields C(C5H10). When C is oxidized by KMnO4 it produces D(C3H60) and E(C2H402). When the calcium salt of E is heated it produces D. What is A B C D and E????? Dear Student,

The organic compound A is pentan-2-ol.
On oxidation it gives B i.e., Pentan-2-one. Since it is a methyl ketone it gives Iodoform test.
A on reaction with conc. H2SO4 undergoes dehydration to give alkene C i.e., pent-2-ene
C on oxidation gives propanoic acid (D) and etanoic acid (E)
Calcium salt of E on heating gives acetone.
