Among CH3-Cl ,CH3-I which has shorter bond length. Give reason?

Bond length in CH3Cl is shorter than CH3I because Iodine is larger in size the Chlorine . Hence Iodine cannot come much close to the central Carbon atom due to steric hindrance. Therefore Bond length of CH3Cl is smaller than CH3I.

Bond length of CH3Cl will be shorter than the other one because of the very gaint size of iodine atom as compared to chlorine atom .
