iii) Ethane into ethyne (acetylene) : i.e., alkane into alkyne

H₂ Alc. Br₂ Alc. KOH

CH₃ = CH₃ ——> CH₃ – CH₂Br ——> CH₂ = CH₂ ——> CH₂Br – CHBr ———> CH ≡ CH

Ethene hv KOH Ethane CCl₄ 1,2-Dibromethane or NaNH₂ Ethyne
