In the presence of Ba(OH)2 acetaldehyde will goes aldol condensation reaction with dehydration i.e leaving a water molecule. Thus the product then after react with NaBH4 will be reduced to CH3CH=CHCH2OH.

Remember NaBH4 reduces only Aldehydes, ketone and acid halide.

Thus product formed after reaction with Ba(OH)2 contains an aldehyde grp and thus, it will undergoes resuction to alcohol.
