Methyl ethanoate is an ester with formula CH3COOCH3 while ethly ethaonate has formula CH3COOC2H5

Methyl acetate on hydrolysis will give 2 molecules of acetic acid while ethyl acetate will give methanoic acid and ethanoic acid.

after hydrolysis iodoform reaction can be carried out to determine the composition

On hydrolysis followed by iodoform reaction, ethyl ethanoate gives an yellow ppt of iodoform but methyl methanoate does not.
