Dear Harini,

REDUCTION OF ALKANES through the addition of h2.

RCH=CHR+H2----(pt,Pd, or Ni)--->RCH2CH2R
You can show h2 under homogeneous conditions using the wilkinson's catalyst. You can show the rates of hydrogenation as follows:
H2C=CH2 >RCH=CH2>R2C=CH2 RCH=CHR>R2C=CHR>R2C=CR2
