what exactly are regiospecific reactions and what is the difference between regiospecific and stereospecific reactions?

hi,

Regiospecific  reaction  is one in which  one direction of bond formation  or bond breaking is somewhat more preffered than the other direction . & when we get  one direction completely prefferd over other than this is called a regiospecific reaction.

Eg . elimination in alkyl halides     ;    we generally get most substituted  alkenes rather than the less substituted

 

Whereas  stereospecific reactions are those in which diff . stereoisomers of reactant   leads to diff . stereoisomer s of product

 You can see that in  Regiospecific  reaction  one reactant give s diff. isomers  while in  stereospecific diff,. isomer gives diff. products
