Why alkyl bromides and iodides give color when exposed to light??

When exposed to light alkyl bromides & iodides undergo homolytic fission to give free bromine & iodine radicals which in turn give bromine & iodine for( however small quantity or slowly).Because both of them is coloured , color is seen.
