Chloroform combines with acetone in the presence of potassium hydroxide to give chloretone, which is used as a sleep producing (hypnotic) drug.

Chloroetone (sleep including drug) is formed on reacting acetone with chloro form in presence of KOH.
O of acetone has lone pair so carbon of chloroform will attack at C of C=O, π bond breaks, negative charge on O, H will attack at O and form OH and CCl3  will attack C to form chloroetone
